stage five: acceptance

posted Thursday, 4 November 2004

Jon Stewart on The Daily Show last night:

"I never thought I'd say this, but I miss the days of voter fraud."

and I miss the halcyon pre-election days when my biggest worries were halloween costumes and derby injuries and boys. now it's all war and divisiveness and terrifying boogeymen lurking around corners, wrapped in the moral armor of the religious right.

I have reached the fifth stage of grief and accept the situation for what it is. but I also accept that we will change it too someday soon. four years is a long time, but it is not as long as it seemed yesterday.

meanwhile, a pilot light of anger and indignation and lust for change has been lit in my belly, slowly burning away the last bits of complacency, and my eyes are open for what will happen next.
