no holding tight, no letting go

She had the feelings locked in and it hurt sometimes but they were real. Then it was the memory of the feelings. Then words about the memory of the feelings, and it began to be too far away to touch. Yes, it had hurt sometimes, but this was much much worse. Her friends wanted her to get over, because that's how the story's supposed to end. But it wasn't getting over; it was loss you keep losing. It was like trying to clench water in your fist; precious and vital and you hold tight to keep it and still it won’t stop seeping away.
