We woke up freezing and hungover and walked under the impending rain clouds to the dining cabin where a beautiful waitress served us beautiful plates of food. After coffee and eggs, everything was right with the world. The rain rolled in and back out again in half an hour, and we decided to try to find the waterfall the Groom had told us about. Meg and Kiara wanted a hike, but the waterfall was more of a view. We climbed, we stared, we left, our ears popping as the car sped down the mountain.
And then it was time to relax. Meg's friend Bricks had moved to Boulder to be a massage therapist, and she'd called him to see if he wanted to hang out. Somehow, she'd swung us massages out of the deal. Glorious. The Wisconsin kids headed to the tea house for some relaxing of their own while I got knots I'd spent years and the last few months building up pulled out of me. Another plus for Colorado. By the time we got done and all regrouped outside, the weather had gone up another ten degrees, the rain had stopped, and it was almost time for the rehearsal dinner.
We walked into the church basement and into the rest of Meg and Kiara's friends. They'd all finally arrived, looking respectable for the occasion. I knew enough people to not feel like a complete interloper, and made small talk with dates and old acquaintances as we piled our plates with food and sucked down the stunningly strong margaritas. The Groom and Bride smiled and toasted and played with the babies and kids running through the hall, genuinely happy. It was lovely to see.
Gifts were given to the groomsmen (fantastic swiss army knives that comically, unfortunately, were used as drunken weapons on the natives later on) and cookies were polished off and then it was back out on the streets to more bars and more socializing, this time without the tiny children. We took polaroids until Nick ran out of film and drank until Rob ran out of pitchers, and when the Groom left we led the bar in cheers for his impending wedding day as he headed out the door. Then we rolled down the street to last night's bar once again, smoking and teasing and causing mischief as best we could, and later earning cheers of our own.
