I have allergies, and there is great shame in admitting it. All my life I've been allergy-free, not dogs or cats or peanuts or pollen, but on Monday I woke up with watery eyes and an itchy nose and I knew it was all over. Now every seasonal shift will be nervously planned around, every trip to the drugstore will be another attempt to find something, anything, that will make me less rundown and stuffed up.
I never believed in the debilitating power of a tearing eye before. I never understood what all those ads for claritin and allegra and all the other made-up pharmaceutical names were for. I wish I still didn't.
